Types of Hardwood

  • Solid Hardwood. Hardwood at least 3/4" thick may be refinished, allowing for a lifetime of service. Planks are available in both standard and random lengths for variety in appearance. Solid hardwood is not recommended for basement installation.
  • Engineered Hardwood. A manufactured hardwood constructed with a natural hardwood veneer. More resistant to warping than solid hardwood and useful when installing over floor radiant heating or where humidity is a concern. Better engineered hardwoods have a veneer thickness of 1/8" or more.

Advantages of Hardwood

  • Increases Home Value. The trend is toward hard surfaces and hardwood floors are a sought-after feature among home buyers. Most renovators find installing new hardwood returns the investment in a higher offer or a faster sale.
  • Lifetime Durability. Due to its ability to be refinished, a properly cared-for hardwood floor should last for the life of the home.
  • Sustainable Choices. Today's hardwoods are primarily harvested from sustainable, managed forests, but options such as cork and bamboo further reduce environmental impact by permitting harvest without killing the plant.
